The updated Remove Tool in Photoshop Elements 2026 now includes a smart new option that automatically detects and removes background people from your photos. It’s perfect for cleaning up crowded shots and putting the focus right where you want it — all with just a few clicks!
How to Use: Open your photo in Photoshop Elements. If you want to protect your image I recommend duplicating the background layer and making the fixes on the duplicate layer, thereby keeping the original image as a safety, just in case. Open the Healing tools and in the Options panel select the Remove Tool button, then click on the button on the right labeled "Find people in background". Photoshop Elements will examine the photo and select any people it sees. If the selection isn't perfect you can add to or subtract from using the selection brush. Once everyone is selected simply click the Done button in the floating tool bar and Photoshop Elements will fill those areas with nearby background content.
