This is my go to technique and the one I use most often to remove people from the background of a photo. The steps are real easy, you just need to pay attention to details and take your time. I use a combination of the Polygonal Lasso Tool to create the selections and the Clone Stamp Tool to hide the parts I don't want.

This is a destructive techinque so it is very important that you work on duplicate layers and hide the original layer as a safety. For this project I usually use just one duplicate layer but you could use two duplicates if you like, one for the background and another for the subject. Sometimes this makes it easier to clean the background. In either case it depends on a careful selection and then do your cloning inside the selection.

One thing I didn't show in the video is how to handle mistakes. If you take out too much of the foreground subjects you can paint them back in by cloning from the saved layer and stamping onto the duplicate layer. Just make sure you don't accidentally clone onto the saved layer.
